I find it most useful when working on 3D drawings to work in one of the four standard isometric views which can be accessed via the Ribbon. For actual drawing purposes though one must be familiar with the different ways the UCS can be reoriented.

Multiple views of a 3D object can be obtained via the Viewports command. Typically if one picks 3D the standard four view setup includes the top, front, side and isometric.

How did you make a 3D drawing while viewing it entirely from the Top view in the first place? Seems rather awkward.

i tried to draw it in front view but could not make it 3d with the pushpull tool but found that in top view i could use pushpull when i had finished the drawing i adjusted the view slightly so i could see that the pushpull was workig . if you know any way of making a drawing 3d in any other view i would like to know. and no it was not awkward.many thanks for your interest look forward to your reply

To draw the truss in it's correct 3D orientation, you should probably change the UCS to "Front" rather than changing the view with the Navcube tool. Navcube only changes your view of the objects, it doesn't actually move the objects. However what you did was fine also, you just need to rotate the truss 90 degrees about the X-axis so it's "standing up"

BTW, my instructions are based on vanilla AutoCAD, I'm not familar with other tools and techniques specific to ACA.

I draw lots of 3D stuff these days. My best advice is to:

A). Understand the UCS and how to move and orient it where you want it.

B). Learn the VIEW Command and how to switch between front, back, top SW Iso, etc...

C). The 3DFORBIT command comes in real handy for 3D detailing. Play around with it until you get comfortable with how to revolve around your objects.
