Mason Dixon Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I converted a jpeg to dxf file(ncaa team logo). Now when I open it up in autocad, my mouse pointer jumps all over the place and is not a normal smooth motion. I can't select anything with accuracy. What would cause this? Quote
bbankston Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 A jpg is raster while AutoCAD is a vector based program. The only thing you'd be able to select is the image itself. It would act the same if you opened that jpg in Adobe Illustrator. Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 Sorry, I should have said that I converted a raster based jpg to a vector based dxf file. When I open the file, my mouse pointer does not run smoothly across the screen which makes it impossible to select lines on the image or add additional lines to the drawing. Quote
bbankston Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Okay. I've seen this before. How did you make the vector line art for the logo? Which program did you use and in what way did you recreate it? Quote
bbankston Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I don't know that program. My suggestion would be to explode your file in CAD. Most times it'll turn the polylines and/or splines into regular lines. Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Explode didn't seem to help my problem. I did notice that I have a grid system of dots that my mouse pointer likes to snap to even with object snap off. Inside the picture the mouse pointer goes away and I have to guess when I get close to a line to alter it. Outside the image the mouse pointer appears but only wants to snap to the grid points. Quote
SLW210 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Sounds like you have grid on and snap mode on. GRIDMODE=0 and/or SNAPMODE=0 Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Unfortunately that didn't seem to help either. Can I upload the dxf file here to let somebody else see if they have the same problem? Quote
bbankston Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Sure, Mason Dixon. I'll take a gander at it. Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 For some reason I can't attach the dxf I hosted it on mediafire here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ele99sj55p45nsg Quote
bbankston Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Mason Dixon, Was that just a clever way to give my computer a virus? (I don't, at least I don't think I do) Everything works great with the logo for me. You did have Grid On and Snap On. I can also select each line of the logo. See below: Quote
bbankston Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 There's plenty of clean up to do on this logo as well. You have lines on top of lines (which means it won't plot very well). And your circles are made up of very small lines. Shouldn't take you too long, though. So that Vector program you had did an auto-trace on the logo? If so it did a good job. The fonts look excellent! Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Wierd, will not work smoothly for me. I'll try acad classic mode next. Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 I switched to classic mode and it works now, wierd again. Quote
bbankston Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 That's actually the mode I always work in, Mason Dixon. That is strange, though. Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Thanks for trying, just glad I can work on it now! Quote
SLW210 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I would suspect a graphics card problem. What are your specs? Quote
Mason Dixon Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Its running on a vostro 3700 that was new last year, shouldn't be the bottleneck I wouldn't think. Quote
