AutoCAD 2009 Crashes

We have a computer with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009. C3D runs perfectly, but when we try to run it as AutoCAD we have a problem. Using buttons, ribbons and toolpalettes everything works fine, but as soon as a key on the keyboard is pressed then AutoCAD immediatey disappears, with no messages. When it is restarted there is also no recovery option, as is normal after a crash.

My dealer can't help me nor offer any advice on the problem.

That's pretty interesting. Is there anything out of the ordinary about the keyboard? By that I mean is it a special purpose keyboard like a gamer would use, or something like that? Perhaps there's a conflict with it's driver. If it's just an ordinary 102 key keyboard, then it sounds like you may need to put your Autocad install disc in and try using the "repair installation" option.

Go to Cadalyst.com and search for 2009 bugs (or just Bug Watch) and see if it is one of the many bugs in 2009.

Jack, its just an ordinary HP keyboard that came with the workstation. It has worked fine until last week and it only happens when C3D is run as vanilla AutoCAD, C3D 2009 works fine. When we run vanilla AutoCAD from C3D 2010 and 2011 on the same machine there is no problem at all

 

I'll try the repair option, but I'm not holding much hope.
