iuliandonici Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Hello, I wasn't sure where I supposed to ask for help, in which forum sectin, plus the fact that I don't have much time. So here it goes: I have 2 drawings as in 2 different .dwg. In the first drawing I have a layer that I would like to OVERLAP it on the other drawing, with the possibility of scaling it, in order to somehow fit onto layers on the 2nd drawing. And I'm using Autocad 2008. Thank you. Quote
dbroada Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I'm not sure that you mean layer (at least in the AutoCAD sense) but I think you need to look into XREF. Quote
iuliandonici Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 I have 2 drawings, meaning 2 different .dwg documents. I would like to MOVE/OVERLAY/OVERLAP somehow that layer onto the other drawing's layer. Quote
dbroada Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 to answer your question as it stands, select everything you want to copy in your first drawing by clicking on them. Right click and select Copy with base and type 0,0. Open your other drawing and ctrl-V and type 0,0. But I still don't think you are asking your question correctly. I understand that you have 2 drawings. I was questioning your understanding of layers. A layer in AutoCAD is where all your drawing items live. You may choose to put every drawing entity on its own layer, you may chose to just put text on one layer and dimensions on another or you may put everything on 1 layer. Quote
iuliandonici Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 @dbroada and everybody who replied here: Thank you for your replies. Being a novice with Autocad 2008 Mechanical, I have now, learned to PROPERLY use COPY/ Copy with base point. I might have not explained myself well with what I wanted to achieve and now that I do, I shall share it: I wanted to PASTE 2 drawings in a NEW drawing and... COLOR ALL THE LAYERS of these drawings, a solution which I have found here (a LSP). Thank you all, once again. Quote
