abtech Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 When I select a point I can see the x, y, z but I can't identify the point number, can anybody help? Quote
dbroada Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I don't think points have numbers, they are just entities in their own right, although it is highly likely that I don't understand your question. Quote
abtech Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 my points come from surveying so every point or coordonate is numbered, only when i go on one point i get the x y z but i can't be sure that i'm on the right point cause it doesn't identify it. I need to be sure cause sometimes the points are all jammed together and it's hard to identify wich one is wich Quote
Murph_map Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Unless the points are blocks created from Civil3D or you are using Civil3D and have the correct point label style created you will not see any point number. Quote
dbroada Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 ahh, sureying is well outside my sphere of competence. Quote
alanjt Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Might be a limitation of looking at it with LT. ahh, sureying is well outside my sphere of competence. I'll say, you can't even spell it! Quote
Murph_map Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Might be a limitation of looking at it with LT. I'll say, you can't even spell it! Maybe that's the UK spelling of it like "Color" Quote

dbroada Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I'll say, you can't even spell it! I checked competence, didn't bother with survey. Quote
alanjt Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I checked competence, didn't bother with survey. Oh, so what you're saying is surveying doesn't deserve correct spelling. Quote
Tyke Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Hey Dave are these guys having a go at you Throw your screwdriver at them:wink: Quote
Tyke Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Seriously though, Murph_map is correct, surveyed points in Civil 3D do have point numbers but this information is lost when the drawing is opened in vanilla AutoCAD and LT has no chance. We read in a lot of survey data that does not need to be manipulated in C3D and instead of inserting points we insert blocks. We attach to each block various bits of data such as XYZ coordinates, point number, survey date, etc as XData so that it can be read by Express Tools if needed, but not in LT. We can also adjust the length of the displayed point number between 1 and 9 digits or the accuracy of the displayed levels, as the level label has the point number attached as XData it can always reference the original Z coordinate of the point even when its been moved away from it. We can achieve quite a few things that are possible in C3D. But it was a problem of one client that needed to be solved. Quote
