Mechanical Desktop included the basic version of autocad inside the program.

My question is: Does Autocad Mechanical 2006 include the regular version of Autocad 2006?

Can you use same commands? Does it have the same interface?

I have been looking around for this info but could not locate.

All help would be much appreciated.

they are virtually the same, but mechanical uses some different toolbars and pulldowns. the commands from autocad work. technically, if yuo had the right customization files, you could turn autocad 2006 into mechanical with a few easy steps.

That's right.

AutoCad Mechanical is just what they call 'Mechanical Desktop' now. It's just Autocad with a bunch of modules, commands, tools etc....built right in.

With Mechanical installed, I can also run plain old Autocad if I wanted to.

i thought you could only get Mechanical Desktop with Inventor? it's a 2CD package.... or so i thought. (unless you just buy Mech. Desktop itself)

Hello,
I only knew acad 2004, and I started to use mechanical 2000 with no problem.

I think every typed and "icon" orders can be used in mechanical. Maybe places change a little, but intuitively you know the new ones. And mechanical has a lot of advantages that faster your work, it has more commands.
I think I'd miss the mechanical stuff if I'd go back to the "normal" acad.

I'm working, at this moment, with mechanical 2006, but the 2000 version was much more stable.
