MRAKA Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I was wondering if someone can help me. One of our printers are being de-commissioned and all our drawings are set up to that printer. Is there a quick fix in Autocad so that all our drawings can be linked to Another printer or will I have to go in every drawing and change the page set/printer settings Andrew UK Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 To the best of my knowledge, you'll have to change it manually. After you create the PC3 using the Add a Plotter wizard, it should be a matter of simply picking the new printer from the "printer/plotter" drop down. somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's the way I've always done it. If there's a better way I'd love to know it. Quote
rkent Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 "A Rose by any other name..." Once you have the new printer setup with the .pc3 file, make a copy of that and rename it to the old printer name. Quote
MRAKA Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Forgot to mention. We have two machines, where our electric drawings are directed to the colour machine and the other types of drawings go to the Black and white machine. The black and white machine is going and my IT department seem to think we cant switch our the printing settings from the B/w to direct to the colour. Im not talking a few drawings, I mean thousands are defaulted to the B/W. I need to send them all to the colour! Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Shouldn't matter, you'll just need to create the .pc3 file for whatever printer you wish to use. May take some tinkering to get linewidths and such where you want them, but you can adjust that with the plotter configuration editor. After you get it, try rkent's suggestion. The change would be seamless then and you can go on just as before. Quote
MRAKA Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks guys - will pass this on to IT. Comments much appreciated. Andrew Wales UK Quote

I didn't think about doing that. All the places I've worked, the IT people refused to do stuff like that, mainly because they didn't think of it I suppose. Here, I almost always print to pdf and email it. Quote
BIGAL Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 We have a colour printer and print b/w to it no problems 2 ways make a new pc3 with the printer defaults set to monochrome then it ignores colour etc at the printer rather than acad. 2nd just open the pen table pick colour 1 hold shift then pick colour 250 make them all black and save as a different pen table this will actually print in colour but all colours are black. MRAKA Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Does any one know where my PC.3 files are stored in AutoCAD???? Quote
rkent Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Does any one know where my PC.3 files are stored in AutoCAD???? In AutoCAD, Options, Files, printer suport file path, printer configuration search path - will give you the path. Or Big Red A, Print, Manage Plotters will take you straight there. Quote
