Problems Changing X-Ref to A Color

Recommended Posts

I would like to take an entire floor plan that is an x-ref and make the x-ref display as all grey. I know how to do that, but what I do not know how to do is to make the blocks from the x-ref all turn grey too. The problem with them is that I modified the color of the block off of "By layer". It's those colors that refuse to turn grey. Is there a way to force those modified colors to grey too?

Thanks!

Make sure that the entities that compose the blocks do not have a hard coded color assigned to them.

What does hard coded color mean? Does that mean I changed the color from what the layer's default color is? I have a lot of that in my blocks. If I did not I would have to create 5xs the layers that I have now, and I have plenty. : )

Yup, over-riding layer properties is generally considered bad practice, and violates most CAD standards. Likewise, objects within blocks should generally be ByLayer or ByBlock so their appearance can be altered to suite the layout/view ... and now you know one of the reasons why

Interesting. I have been working in MicroStation for 12 years and have done it all by line weight so this was never an issue. What stinks is now that I am using color, I will need 3 layers just for a toilet if I want it to look good. I have 3 line weights. Bummer. I will have this for several blocks. That's gonna take some time to fix. :)
