Editable Spline Extrusion Trouble

Recommended Posts

When I apply an extrude modifier from the modifier list to my editable spline, the extrusion follows only the x axis. In this case I need it to extrude along the y axis. I cannot figure out how to control the direction of the extrusion. This must be very basic, but the solution seems to be over my head. Your help is much appreciated.

I know this issue was discussed in an older thread but unfortunately it didn't help me.

In which viewport did you draw the spline?

If you drew it in the "Left" viewport, the extrusion will be confined to the "X" axis.

If you drew it in the "Front" viewport, the extrusion will be confined to the "Y" axis.

If you drew it in the "Top" viewport, the extrustion will be confined to the "Z" axis.

I have redrawn the spline now in all four viewports including the perspective view. The extrusion will only slide along the x.

What is also strange is if I rotate the spline 90 degrees on the z axis, and then try to extrude, (making the x axis the desired direction) the extrusion then slides along the y axis. In other words, the extrusion moves 90 degrees (x y) in the wrong direction no matter what I try.

I can't really think of any reason why this would be happening. A spline should only extrude in it's normal direction, which is why I thought maybe you were drawing it in the wrong viewport. If I think of something I'll let you know.
