Howdy All,

I'm new to this forum and although I don't have AutoCAD I thought this may be a good place to get some advice on a simple CAD program. I have used AutoCad in the past, but I can't justify the cost for my simple usage. I'm in the process of building a garage and am looking for a simple 2D shareware or freeware program that will draw to scale so I can layout lot and garage drawings to be submitted to the city for building permits. It would also be nice if this program would save in a format AutoCad will read as I do have access to someone with AutoCad and a plotter to print out the scaled drawings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Max

Hi Maximus and welcome. How about a free CAD program? Try this...

http://www.progecad.com/

It is an LT version of ProgeCAD. It has a nag screen on start-up but it is free and it does work. Some features are locked out but it might be just enough for your needs.

Good luck.

Thanks partner, I'll give it a try. As long as it'll do a scaled drawing it'll be all I need.

Cheers,
Max

It will. I tried it and it is very usable. Not quite LT-2005 but very usable.
