Shelley Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have AutoCAD LT 2008 soon to be LT 2012 and I also have AutoCAD 2012. I would like to know if there is a way that I can set up a Layer Filter and transfer it from one drawing to another. Ideally we would be able to do this in the LT version not full. If anyone can help it would be appriciated. If there is some way to do this with Tool Palletes that would be great. Thanks Shelley Quote
BIGAL Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Probably only if you use DWT or save and erase contents cut and paste into new. Quote
Shelley Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 I dont get it. I have a DWT (template) file that we currently us that has out Titleblocks (TB) in it. I could add the filter and layers into this file. But we dont necessarly use this file on all of our drawings. Most of the time people open this file and copy the TB they need and place it into another file. Even if I open a file and say insert template from file. I do not get the layers or filter. I can create a tab in the Template that has the layers on it and if I insert that tab the layer come but not the actual Filter. I think I am just really unsure on the steps. Any additional help would be appriciated Quote
tzframpton Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Most of the time people open this file and copy the TB they need and place it into another file. Looks like it's time to have a sit down and talk about your company's new standards of procedures. I have many Layer Filters, but everything starts with a template. I have many different Templates too. This is the absolute best practice to have for efficiency in the office. Quote
Shelley Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 I am open to suggestions. But we are low on the food chain. I work in Low Voltage (Fire Alarm, Nurse Call ect.) so by the time I get a file it is usually completely set up and we are adding our stuff to it. I am not starting from scratch. 99% of the time I am using a file from an A/E I also have the problem that we have some users that are weaker than others. If its not a simple thing then they wont do it. Is there a way that I could create a custom Button (ICON) that can set up a filter and create layers in it? Quote
tzframpton Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I am not starting from scratch. 99% of the time I am using a file from an A/EWe all usually are using a file from someone else. Yet another reason to have a sit down and discuss how to manage inbound files from other firms. That's the only way to do it right, is to create your own standards that work for you (you as in your company). I also have the problem that we have some users that are weaker than others. If its not a simple thing then they wont do it.This is not an excuse. All people who are employed have to follow certain policies and guidelines. And you can make it simple, just make the opening file the main template file that has everything needed already in it. When they open AutoCAD, it's all there. Quote
Shelley Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 Ok we have standards. Currently we have a way to make all of our layer have "0_xxxx" that way they all group together. We are looking at following AIA standards but that would mean our layers are scattered in the layer list. I would like to use a filter to keep the all together Quote
nukecad Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I always found that layer filters would copy across even when you didnt want them. I.e. if I copied and pasted just one line from a drawing that contained layer filters then all the layer filters copied over as well. On large projects we used to end up with literally thousands of layer filters on a drawing as proprietory parts etc. were copied into the drawing each bringing their own layer filters. Quote
Shelley Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 I have tried that and it does not come. Just copying and pasting would be great. If I could put something on Tool palletes or in Design Center that would be great. But I can not get this to work. It should not be this hard. Quote
tzframpton Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Try LFILTERIO.ZIP program: http://www.dotsoft.com/freestuff.htm Note: this will not work with AutoCAD LT. Quote

If you recieve a file from A/E do you open your template and copy the background and tb from the A/E file into your Template file? Quote
tzframpton Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 First off, we don't have the need for many Layer Filters within the original CAD file. To answer your Question, yes, we have our own procedure as to how we strip down the A/E CAD file and make it our own. We don't copy/paste into anything since all we need the original file for is for background and layout purposes. Quote
