Theja
I am not able to place constraints on a spur gear to view its simulation . I am new to Autocad . I would be glad if anyone would help me by providing the step by step process for placing constraints on a spur gear .
JD Mather
AutoCAD does not have dynamic simulation in the sense of Autodesk Inventor. What progam are you using? If you use the Gear Generator within Inventor it automatically places the motion constraints that will convert to Dynamic Simulation rolling cylinder on cylinder joints. Attach your assembly here. What book are you using to learn Dynamic Simulation? Have you gone through the built-in tutorials?
Theja
Yea . I meant Autodesk inventor . Like if you open a spur gear in the ratio 2:1 you have to derive the constraints for its movements right ? I don't use any book . I am just trying to learn online through tutorials . But tutorials on this topic aren't too clear for a beginner to understand !
JD Mather
Drive Constraint is used in the Assembly Environment - not in the Dynamic Simulation Environment. What environment are you working in? Zip and attach your assembly here. If working only in the Assembly Environment you will need a Motion - Rotational constraint with correct ratio and an Angle constraint to Drive Constraint (the angle of rotation). If working in the Dynamic Simulation Environment and if you used the Gear Generator then Inventor will automatically add a Cylinder on Cylinder joint and you will need to edit the pinion gear Revolution joint to add Imposed Motion for velocity degrees/second of rotation. Zip and attach your assembly here. You might search Wasim Younis for an appropriate book to learn Dynamic Simulation.
Theja
This is the assembly . I've placed the constraints . How do i make it work now ? Assembly1.zip

JD Mather
Look at the size of that file. Of course an assembly without any parts is useless. An assembly file (*.iam) is simply a list of hyperlinks to part files.
Theja
Its just a simple spur gear . How huge do you expect the file to be ?
rdharvey
What you have uploaded is an asm file as is useless without the parts. So we wont be able to see anything. Thats what jd is getting at with the file size.
JD Mather
Its just a simple spur gear . How huge do you expect the file to be ? It is not a spur gear. A spur gear is a part, an ipt file in Inventor.
