attributes and JPGs???

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have architectural desktop 2011, my supervisor would like me to attach PDF and/or JPG to an attribute (or make an attribute that will call-up a JPG). I do not think this is possible, I’ve been the AutoDesk Forum and did not get any significant help. So…if it is correct that this cannot be done how can one place a word to a DWG and then ‘hyperlink’ it to a folder or an individual JPG? so I can click on the word int he DWG CAD and it will then pop up the JPG...

Thanks

I have removed your physical adress and phonenumber, I don't think its a good idea to give that info out on a public forum.

As for your email-adress, I would remove that too if I were you - the help this forum can give you is better placed in this thread.

OK it is removed (the gov addresss)

"Hyperlink command" I do not know! I'm looking for some manner in which I can have a JPG (in its own folder - JPG not paisted into the DWG) so that when I hover over a word ON THE DWG (or click on it) it will then go and get the JPG and open it to the computer screne. My supervisor seems to think that is "attributes" and I am certain that this can NOT be done in attributes. SLW210 said to try FIELD...but I have yet to understand this or get anywhere with it.

My knowledge in CAD is limited

TEXT, MTEXT or ATTRIBUTES can use FIELDS. After selecting and Double-Clicking an Existing TEXT or MTEXT>CTRL+F>In Field Catagory Choose LINKED. You can also Insert Field while creating TEXT, MTEXT and ATTRIBUTES.

Edwin. THanks that is a good link and it seems to work on most of my drawings. However, it does not work on the utility drawing I continually get a "Hyperlink destination can not be found". The link looks good and I've tested other drawings with the JPG that I want to link into the utility drawing...but, no go! What could the utility drawing have 'in' it that would prevent me doing any hyperlinks?

The "Hyperlink destination can not be found" means the files you are using for the hyperlinks are not in your AutoCAD support/search path. Either include the complete path to the files, (c:bobs/images/2011/project/image1.jpg) or include the folders the files are in to your support files in the options. Also if the files are on a network server make sure the mapped paths are correct.
