I'm sorry if this is very basic stuff:
Can anyone tell me why i can't see linetypes in model space? I've not had this problem in the past, so i can only assume that i have accidently changed some setting without realising it. I've read through the CADTutorials and the related postings here and i've tried and tried but i can't do it. So exasperating! (I'm using 2002)

Welcome to the forum claire.

Firstly the LWT button at the bottom of the screen must be on.

Line weights may not show up on screen if they have been set to minimum under user preferences.

Go to the Tools menu and choose Options. Click on the User Preferences tab and then the Lineweight Settings button. Pull the Adjust Display Scale slider to the right away from the Min setting and hit the Apply and Close button and then the OK button.

If your LWT button is on and you are in model space then you should see the lines displayed with different thicknesses, assuming that you have changed some lines away from the default thickness to start with!

Hi Rob (and everyone else)

Thanks very much for answering. Unfortunately it's still not working. I have LWT depressed, i've followed your user preference instructions. I have applied dashes and thicknesses to lines both individually and by layer.

What i hadn't realised before though, was that i can see them in model space when on a layout tab, just not on the model tab. (I have other documents where i can see them with no problem.)

(Could it be anything to do with a style template that i may have unwittingly used for the drawing? I know nothing about them...)

Think I understand what your saying, you can only see the effects of the lineweight in model space ,but as soon as you go to paper space(Layout 1 or Layout 2 tab)you find the lineweights are not visable.Try this:
Type PSLTSCALE at the command line.
Enter the value "0"
If the value is set to "1"then you will find the lineweights arent diplayed in paper space,as in your case.
To see the effects of altering this system variable, come out of paper space and re-enter it or just switch to paper space from model space.
I rememeber having exactly the same problem ages ago it,drove me mad! :D]

Aha, misread your post claire

If you are in the model tab and can't see the dashes of, say a hidden linetype, then first select the hidden line (assuming you have it set to hidden line type) and go to the Modify menu and select Properties. When the Properties window opens play around with changing the Linetype scale until you see the dashes on screen. Some people with very large monitors leave their Properties window open all the time so that they can regularly edit lines etc.

It depends on your drawing but when in the model tab you should always draw at a scale of 1:1 and I find that for hidden lines I normally set the linetype scale to 0.3 or thereabouts to get the lines to look right.

You may want to try changing the linetype scale by a factor of 10 to start with. So try either 0.1 and see how it goes - still no dashes seen - then try a scale of 100 the next time. If your drawing in the model tab is drawn to a scale of anything other than 1:1 then you will have complications later when you go to paper space to print out.

Hope this helps.

Rob.
