Laptops are all the rage now and im ready to jump on the bandwagon.
Just looking for any advice out there. I love doing 3d Autocad and also
looking to teach myself 3dsMAX and flash. Im looking at a laptop with
Pentium-M 760 (2.0GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2Mb L2 Cache), Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Edition, 100GB, 1024MB DDR2 (2*512), DVD-Super Multi, 15.4" WSXGA+ TFT, 128Mb ATI Mobility Radeon X700, Modem, LAN, 802.11a/b/g WLAN, Bluetooth, 5-in-1 Card Re
(Ive pasted too much info, i know). Its an ACER, would it perform well
or is everyone waiting for more core duo processors to come out.

10 Months old, but still a good guide:

1GB Ram is bare minimum. Get as much as possible.

BTW: Typing this on a Dell M70

Interesting article, id be looking at machines with upgradable
ram anyway. Still theres a perception that Dell are expoiting
CAD users with the precision series (never see them in their
magazine flyers). I got charged over 2 grand in euros for one
that had only 512 ram, The only difference between it and the
other dell machines was the graphics card. Its one reason ive
been trying to get a better alternative since.

I was given an Acer Travelmate 420 here at work. It's a P4 2.00GHz w/ 256mb of RAM, and it seems to work OK. Would be nice to have more RAM, but since it's not my computer, I'm not really going to complain. It runs faster than the desktop I have at home, Celeron 330+ 2.0GHz 1.0GB Ram, etc...etc...but that computer has been relegated to WP/Internet duties...heh.
