Hi All
I'm a complete newbie so bear with me. I have been given the task at work to count a lot of devices from hard copy drawings.
I'll try and explain I would be counting cameras, detectors, power supplies etc.

I have aked the drawing guy's at work if there is a way to..................

" Let me stop you there they said....The answer is NO no what's the question " It's true .

I would like to click on a symbol (say camera ) hit a key and see the amount of camers that are on that drawing ???

So is there a way i can count the items I am running autcad lt 2000

I oculdn't find the command for this for a while, but I was sure there mustve be!Its something that I've been curious about to,would be incredibly handy,as I often end up counting equipment off drawings for asett schedules.I eventually srumbled across the COUNT command (express tool) which can be used for R14,but if you have 2000 then you can use the BCOUNT command. :) How many hours will I save :) ,wont have to sit there counting 1000 light fittings crossing them off with marker pens!

Have a look at your drop down menus at the top of your screen when AutoCAD is open. Can you see one called EXPRESS ?If right click a toolbar and then select customise. Now have a look at the bottom drop down box called MENU GROUP,is there an item in there called EXPRESS ?If still no,I doubt you have the express tools installed. You may have these express tools installed on your original AuotCAD installation disk.

hyposmurf, Vincent mentioned he's only got the LT version... that means no Lisp routines, so, No Express menu and No BCOUNT unfortunately.

Vincent, you might want to look into Attribute Extraction in the help file. I don'y have LT so I can't remember if it's possible, I would imagine so
You can extract all attributes and block info into a text file so you should be able to do all your counting from there

Oh I mustve missed that bit ,so I guess your method is the only way to go.

The easy method would be just to have lets say the camera on one layer. then turn off all other layers. Then type move and enter then select all objects and it should say how many are found....wola!
