A Little Inventor Help???

Recommended Posts

I am trying to use a manufacturers .stp file for a very complex piece of equipment in a BIM project. I have inventor only because it came with my Autodesk Design Suite.

The .stp loads great into inventor but the file is 144 MB .....

After exporting to a dwg it is still 89 MB.

Any one know how to Use the inventor shrinkwrap function?

Is there a better way? ???

Here is a link to a paper I did on complex assembly simplification with AEC products. You really need something that is only about 2-5 MB in size at the most. Revit really doesn't like large assets in the model. This paper will only stay in my dropbox for a minimum of 7 days, after that, go to the Autodesk University website to pull down the class.

If for some reason you cannot get it simplified down to where you need it, you might just have to combine them in Navisworks. In Revit you can use a simple prismatic placeholder for the construction drawings if need be. With Navisworks you can load either the full Inventor model or just the Shrinkwrapped Representation depending on how much detail you need.

Thank You!!!!!

Shrinkwrap worked!!

I was able to get it down to 64MB (still quite large for one piece of equipment..)

I then XREF'ed it into my CAD file, aligned it, the loaded CAD file into NAVIS, saved as .nwd and BINGO!!!!

They show up in the model great!!

Thanks Again!!!!!!
