drawing lines w/ decimal

I am having trouble with drawing lines in decimal. My length is Decimal, insertion scale is feet. So say I wanted to enter 21 inches in feet. I just click to draw my line, then use 21/12 as my input for length. That works fine. But when I have a line that I want drawn at 21.5" (I enter 21.5/12), it won't work, saying point or option keyword required. I feel like there is a very basic answer to this and I'm searching for answers with the wrong keywords I believe. What am I missing?

Welcome.

And if using (/ 21.5 12) format, when you want to divide whole numbers be sure to add a .0 to one of the numbers to prevent rounding. So if you had (/ 21 12) you would get 1, you have to format like (/ 21.0 12), or (/ 21 12.0) to get 1.75.

Acad doesn't like using decimals with fractions in the command line. It sees the '/' symbol as a fraction. It stems from the 'beginning' with Acad. The (/ *** ***) utilizes the calculate function in Acad. Hope that was clear enough!
