resullins Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Has any one noticed any bugs with running AutoCAD 2012 on a Windows 7, 64 bit machine? When I have, say one instance of AC open with multiple files open... and I CTRL + TAB between them, everything on the screen will disappear until I run a regen. It's odd, and it scared the HELL out of me the first time it happened. I recently upgraded computers, and I have a better graphics driver, RAM, etc. The only thing that I feel like could be causing this would be the upgrade from Windows XP 32bit to W7 64bit. There's also the issue of my Tool Palettes randomly deleting themselves or objects in them. But that could just be because my support paths are a little screwy. Quote
rkent Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I haven't had that happen, however, I have two monitors and if I move my cursor to the non-AutoCAD screen for a while (I haven't measured how long) the graphics area in AutoCAD will be blank. Moving the cursor back to the AutoCAD screen brings everything back. Quote
resullins Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Hmmm.... I have two screens as well, and haven't noticed that... but I almost peed myself when I saw that everything had disappeared from a 20-page single line I had worked on for weeks. Quote
ReMark Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 The ladies' room is down the hall on your left. Did you download and install update 1 yet? I've been running AutoCAD 2012 since it came out on a Win7 Pro 64-bit computer and have not experienced either of the problems you mentioned. Quote
resullins Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Actually... it's on the right where I am... the bedroom is on the left. That could be bad! I don't know if I have... how do I check? Quote
ReMark Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 How do you find out? Type the word ABOUT at the command line then press Enter. At the window that pops up look in the upper left hand corner where you will see your serial number listed and just below it the product version you are running. If SP1 is loaded it will say so. Quote
resullins Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 Yup... I have SP1. Crud. Oddly enough... it's not doing it today. Maybe I was out of memory or something since I never turn off my computer! I should really do that more often. Now I'm going to have to redo all my tool palettes though. That's gonna be a pain in the butt. Quote
ReMark Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Doesn't sound like a memory error issue to me. Quote
resullins Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 It doesn't to me either... but it apparently happens the most when I don't shut down. Who knows. I'm still learning the quirks of my new computer. Quote
ReMark Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I thought you said you had more RAM in this new system. Do you frequently get "out of memory" errors? Quote
resullins Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I do... I have 12G in here, and never have gotten an error. Quote
ReMark Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 12GB? Unless you're working with several huge or complex (3D) files at the same time, have every application in Microsoft Office enabled, a browser open, a playlist actively pumping out the tunes, and your trusty anti-virus program all running at the same time I don't see how you are going to be getting memory errors unless you have a bad module or one that is improperly seated. None-the-less, I don't recommend leaving a computer running continuously but there are those that would argue just the opposite. Quote
resullins Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 That's what I figured. I don't know... it's odd. Oh well. Let's just hope the tool palette thing doesn't keep happening. That's REALLY annoying. Quote
Dadgad Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 When I am away from my computer long enough that my Norton starts a (down-time triggered) full scan, I have all kinds of weird stuff happen, huge blocks of info from my quick properties palette doesn't show up, and I need to reboot to get everything back on track. Once I do it is all sorted again. The same thing happens if I put my computer to sleep. Quote
ReMark Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Could be the cause of resullins problems. If you're going to leave your computer on almost all the night it might be a good idea to force the scans to be done after you have left for the evening. Quote
SLW210 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Do you use screensavers or lock your computers when away? Quote
