I have this design on autocad that I want laser cut but there are so many lines it'll probably take over an hour to check for overlapping lines. Is there a plugin or something that'll automatically check for them? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the OVERKILL command?

Nope, but I'll check it out. I'm a newbie to autoCAD, but I've used it for like 2 years.

Well I'll be. The overkill command is not in the help file, or in my quick reference book, but there it is. I guess thats why I like this forum so much.

It's part of Express Tools, and it *is* documented in the HELP file (\Express\acet.chm)

I see it now. I was looking in the general help by doing a search. I still think it should show up there too.

It won't because it's not part of the core program. It may get there someday though. All the ET: Layer tools were migrated into AutoCAD 2007.

dude the OVERKILL command works like a charm!!!! i'm gonna have to add that to the FLATTEN tutorial i just did, cuz the thing that sucks about when you flatten a 3D object, is all the lines are still there. wow that is awesome.... man i love this forum. buncha AutoCAD geeks.... LOL sweet. 8)

But sometimes it goes crazy if you ask to optimize the polilines. Just my opinion.

I am working in autocad lt 2007, the OVERKILL command doesn't seem to work. Is there another way of deleting the duplicate lines in LT 2007?

Are you prepping Laser Cutting files like the OP?
If so, you could window select all pertinent geometry while running the "Region" command ("Boundary" command would be another option). This would isolate only the geometry neede to make the complete loop. The rest could be erased. Regions could then be explode for CNC processing.
Unfortunately this method doesn't work so well for open lines and polylines.

i had exported an autociil dwg to cad. as usual cad civil has a lot of overlapping lines... and i tried overkill, but it is useless... it takes a long time in deleleting lines. there maybe 3-6 overlapping lines.. is there any way to delete it one single command aside from exterminating all the lines?????

I think if you uncheck the OVERLAP and END to END boxes in the dialog box that appears after you type OVERKILL, you will reduce the procesing time a lot since AutoCAD won´t have to regenerate new entities, it will simply erase the repeated ones.
