Hi, I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 and am wondering if it is possible to display contours shaded by grade? For example where contours were 0-20% grade they would be shaded blue, 20-30% shaded red and above 30% green. Alternatively, can this be done in ArcView 10?

Thanks!

If you create a surface object from the contours you can use the analysis tool and display properties to show shading (solid hatch).

With ArcView NO, you would need the 3D Analy$i$ add-on ($$$$) for that.

I think the question is, can you have gradient colors for the contours themselves, not the whole surface. The only color control I'm aware of is for major vs. major contours. I believe you would have to do some programming to get that effect. Even less appealing, you could create several surfaces and change the contour colors for each band.
