My Autocad 2004 (with service pack 1a installed) has recently become very slow. It takes ages after I type for example plot or options for that window to open. What could be the cause of this?

When did the problem first occur?

What are the system specs for your computer?

What is type of drawing are you plotting? 2D? 3D?

How big is the file size of the drawing?

Does this problem occur no matter what type or size the drawing is?

Could benefit from a little more information.

I don't have that computer with me at the moment but it's quite new laptop.
I've had the problem for about a week, before it was ok. It doesn't matter if I have a large or small drawing open (all 2D). And it's not just plot, it's everytime I do something with AutoCAD that opens some sort of new window. Otherwise my computer is ok, just AutoCAD slowing down...

Where are your support files kept?

I had a similar problem with my laptop, I was using it on my companys network, the laptop had to access the shared file server to access any support files such as pen settings and plot style tables. To rectify this I copied the support file from the server to my laptops hard drive and remapped the file locations in options. Now it access the files much quicker, the only down side is that when the netork file gets updated you have to re-copy the file on the hard drive.

Hope this helps

Dave

That's not the case with me. All the support files are already on the computer and it doesn't get anything from network.

Any other ideas?
