louise archi student Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 hi there, i have just starting using autocad. i am doing this tutorial http://www.infiniteskills.com/demos/movie-player.php?h=685&w=890&movie=http://iskills-media.s3.amazonaws.com/autocad2012beg-demo/0105.mp4 I made a rectangle of 50x30 units with an offset 0.5 to form the walls of a building. i placed an imperial door in the middle of one of the walls of the rectangle but the door is MASSIVE in comparison to my rectangle. Where has my scale gone wrong? and how do i change it? can you help? Many thanks, Louise Quote
ReMark Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 First of all you should NOT be drawing anything "to scale". That technique went out with the drafting board and pencils. Everything you draw in model space should be drawn to FULL size. If a wall is 12 feet long and 9 feet high that's the size you draw it to so that when you insert you door block it won't be larger than the wall it is being inserted to. Imperial door? Have you set your UNITS to Architectural? I think you may have drawn a rectangle that AutoCAD is treating as 4'-2"x2'-6". That would require a pretty small door to fit. Quote
louise archi student Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 hey there, could you help please? I have just started learning AutoCad 2012 through http://www.infiniteskills.com/demos/movie-player.php?h=685&w=890&movie=http://iskills-media.s3.amazonaws.com/autocad2012beg-demo/0105.mp4 Problem is: i made my recatangle building 50x30 units. the walls are offset by 0.5 units. BUT when i insert an "imperial door" the door is MASSIVE in comparison to my rectangle building. is my door scale wrong? or is the building scale wrong? HOW DO I CHANGE ONE OF THESE ELEMENTS? PLEASE HELP! many thanks, louise Quote
SLW210 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I have combined your threads. No need to create more threads for the same question. Quote
A1DWG Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hi, like ReMark says, you need to ensure you are using the same "units". ie your building 50 by 30 - Feet? if you have drawn the building in inches and need it to be feet, use the scale command and a factor of 12. In hindsight always set the units before you start a drawing. Quote
