First of all- thanks for the amazing site. I've searched long and hard for a knowledgeable, friendly, consistent, and responsive site. Nothing comes close to this place!

I have been using the site pretty hard (w/o disappointment!) these recent days and perhaps my observations are simply due to my newbie status but here they are-

1.Search function is pretty extensive, but it seems I somehow pull up the same forum pages all the time, but if i narrow my search to just those words i'm looking for, it says "no go". Yet later, i'll find the query buried somewhere else. ?I dunno about that...it's kind of hard to know what the exact phrasing on something would be.

2.Perhaps there should be a sub-section (I love the "How do I..?" section) that is solely dedicated to error messages. I think that is one of my number one panic times- it would be nice to have a quick dedicated search area for that stuff.

3.I really think there should be a mandatory "flow thru" the front page after your account is activated- with a flashing "ReadMe- no really, read me" for things like the tutorials or even the ground rules. I came to this site (directly to a forum discussion) through a link from elsewhere and I never (at least I don't think I did) saw the "front page". very disorienting.

and lastly-
feedback is normally at the bottom of the page? i think it says nice things about the site that it's on top of (what i think) is the front page- but perhaps that's why i didn't recognize it as the front page even after i saw it a couple of times. i thought i was on the site map page (maybe i am?).

ok
that's all i have to say about that.
keep up the good work- you keep me up and workin'!

Ps- and i really like the colors too...

Thanks for the great feedback.

I have been aware for a white that the various parts of the site don't hang together well. The new version of the site (due soon - honest!) aims to resolve this problem with better navigation. We are also moving over to vBulletin for the forum. I've never been 100% happy with the phpBB search facility and I think the vBulletin one is better.

As for the forums, I guess an error message forum might work. I aim to review the forums for the relaunch and I would also like to improve on the FAQ area because I've just spotted the 26th topic on converting from metric to imperial

Anyway, it's good to get some constructive feedback and I'm really glad you're finding the site useful.

'How to' does work.

If people read and searched eg 'read this before posting' then we would not see so mnay scale, paperspace, etc topics re-curring. :?

Maybe a FAQ, very short just with error messages and sysvariable settings would help.

I'm busy at work and I'm just back from all day MTBing 8) . I'm also climbing most nights. So may not be able to give much time  . Winter dark nights at this latitude encourage posting for me.
