I've inserted the aplha symbol α and it seems to be slightly wider the weighting of the symbol than the rest of my text. This will when it come to plotting time look shoddy how do I get round this problem?I can't even get the dam symbol to appear properally in this post (α)

You don't mention which font you are using but my guess is that it is a TTF you are talking about.
This is one of the issues with Autocad and TTF's I'm afraid. Sometimes they "appear" different on screen, though in reality, when they are plotted, there is no apparent difference.
Have you tried a trial plot to see if there is any difference ?

I'm using the ISOCP2 font, and the alpha sign is Greek s.If I use the ISOCP2 for my sign as well, then the symbol shanges to a different sign as the aplpha sign doesnt exist in ISOCP2.I have tried plotting it & it does plot the same :( .
