Can't Import into 3DS

I have just started working with 3ds max and just upgraded my autocad to 2007. Before you could export to 3ds but not anymore. I also see that you can import dwg files into 3ds but the one file I want to import gives an error message "eBadDwgHeader" what does this mean and how can I fix it? Note: the file was originally made in autocad 2006 and only recently moved to 2007.
