King Stevo Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Hi folks, I'm trying to edit a drawing I completed last month. The only thing I need to amend is in 'Layout 1'. In this layout, scale and everything else is fine. The problem I have is that I put some text in the bottom left-hand corner (providing details/title/date etc. of the drawing) and now I need to amend that text.) The text only appears on 'layout 1' - not on 'model' or 'layout 2', so I know it's only on that layout. However, not matter how much I zoom or increase the scale - the text obviously stays the same size. I know this is a simple thing to change, I just can't for the life of me - remember how to do it. Typical newbie. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Are you sure that you don’t perform in fact the zooming operation through an activated Model Space viewport that hasn’t the scale factor locked? Thus you are changing the size of view from Model Space while the items in Paper Space stay the same size. Just double-click somewhere outside any vieport and try again. Quote
King Stevo Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Hi Mircea, And thank you for replying - but what? I don't want this topic to get any more complicated that it has to, so I'm not getting back into 'model space' questions, etc. (I do not doubt your knowledge of AutoCAD as I am sure 'everyone' has a better 'grip' on it than I do as a beginner, but.....) When I generated the drawing initially - after completing the drawing, I went to layout 1, set up the page via 'manager' etc. and did the usual. I got my scale sorted, got my headings sorted - all fine. (Let's just ignore all of that to keep this simple as it's irrelative.) I then inserted some multiline text in the bottom left corner to label & date my drawing. This is what I am trying to edit today. Is there a way to edit text in the layout is the simple question I am asking...??? Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 If those labels are located in Paper Space, then ensure that you are in Paper Space and just double-click the entity you want to edit or call the DDEDIT command and select it. What is really confusing in your first post is mentioning of text items that doesn’t change when you zoom. Quote
King Stevo Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Hi Mircea, Thanks again for your quick reply. Yes, the problem seems to be the paper space you mentioned, as when I enter DDEDIT - I can select everything 'except' the text I want to edit. So I suppose my next stupid question is......how do I get to 'paper space'?? (For the record, I don't know what happened to this text and why it doesn't change when I zoom? The text was constructed by using advise from this website, so I'm not sure why it doesn;t change with the rest of the drawing on layout 1? Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 To activate the Paper Space mode you either (1) double-click somewhere outside any viewport (2) click the MODEL button in status bar (the caption should then change to PAPER) or (3) call the PS command. Quote
Tiger Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Perhaps a screenshot would help identify what the text might be? Quote
King Stevo Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Perfect - thanks for your help - that worked for me. Text amended. Quote

This sounds to me a highly likely hypothesis, because as Mircea points out, you appear to be zooming the contents of MODELSPACE without affecting the text. Double click in PAPERSPACE (outside of your VIEWPORT) to access paperspace, then change the text. Or use one of the other suggestions, like entering PS at the commandline. Quote
MSasu Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Perfect - thanks for your help - that worked for me. Text amended. Glad to hear you got it solved! But, I'm afraid that this points out another issue in your drawing - seems that the scale factor of the last active viewport isn't locked. Please remember that it is a good drafting practice to always lock the scale of your Paper Space viewports after done with setting the scale; this way you ensure that don't damage your drawing accidentally.
