Majicdobe Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Good morning, I'm a bit lost this morning. I'm so used to using the icons in acad that when I have to remember how to get somewhere by keying it in I get lost... I'm looking to get my open file dialog/browse box back instead tof using the command line, I need a quick fix!!! i feel a little silly asking since i've been using acad for 10+ years... Quote
Blackfish Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Type FILEDIA=1 in command line and it should OK Quote
ReMark Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 One of the top three most prevalent questions on this or any AutoCAD help site. Quote
ReMark Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 They have to do with the PICKFIRST and PICKADD commands. The questions got asked so often one of the mods had the answer as part of his "signature". There are probably another dozen that could be added to the list. Most have to do with system variables. Quote
Blackfish Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Oh... really? I'm a new on the forum, but with some experience in CAD and I'm so surprised reading some posts that people who knows nothing about AutoCAD (don't mention any programming) wants to do thing that users do after years of using software... Sorry, for a private reflection here. Quote
ReMark Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Well maybe they have high expectations. I see nothing wrong with that unless you are implying that the same users should have a broader understanding of the program they are using. Some people like to jump in feet first and all right at the beginning. Maybe it is the fact that some of us have been using AutoCAD for longer than the age of some of the people who come here looking for answers to their questions. Quote
Blackfish Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Yes... 'broader understanding of the program they are using' that's what I mean. Maybe it's just jealousy... however rather not, because I woudn't be here helping others Quote
ReMark Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Jealousy? Why? Aren't we paying enough attention to you? If you don't mind me saying so you seem pretty well-versed in AutoCAD so I wouldn't expect you to have many questions. Am I wrong? Quote
MLP Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I've been using Autocad since version 8. I didn't learn autocad in school. I learned it on the job, sitting between two guys who knew it better than I did. Even now there are thing I don't know, simply because I've never encountered them. My current problem is that my computer at home will give me a dialog box if I want to use the SAVEAS file command, but my computer at work dosen't. I can't seem to find any setting that would explain the difference. Quote

If you don't mind me saying so you seem pretty well-versed in AutoCAD so I wouldn't expect you to have many questions. Am I wrong? Yes and no Forget about jealousy... I was wrong even thinking about that. Regarding questions, probably I don't know many thing about AutoCAD, but before I ask I always try to find an answer in the internet by my self without taking others' time. In the same time I like to help others and share my humble knowledge here and there. It's make me happy PS. As you know I use AutoCAD LT and sometimes it's not possible to certain thing in it, so that's my challange... I've been using Autocad since version 8. I didn't learn autocad in school. I learned it on the job, sitting between two guys who knew it better than I did. Even now there are thing I don't know, simply because I've never encountered them. If it's only SAVEAS command I don't know. Quote

My guess is that Blackfish could have meant envy, as in he is envious of those trying to dive right into the deep end of the pool. Quote
ReMark Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I too try to find answers to my problems via a number of different ways/sources before posting a question. However, the first impulse many new users have is to immediately find some kind of "Help" forum, such as CADTutor, in hopes of getting a quick answer. Either they do not have the time to search for an answer on their own or they have yet to master the skills to find the answer through other sources. Either way it certainly keeps us busy and the fact we get so many people coming to CT speaks highly of its reputation. I wrote this back in 2009. http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?33652-Where-do-I-go-for-help-with-an-AutoCAD-problem Quote

You right Dadgad, you hit the nail on the head... That's what I meant. English is not my mother language, therefore sorry for misleading you Quote
