iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Hi again all, Trying to sort of "go back to school" with 3D as it has been a long time. I'm liking FLATSHOT but completely don't get SECTION and SECTIONPLANE. All I want to do is create a 2D section, much like FLATSHOT but obviously a section. Can you kind folks explain in nice, simple, short words?? Thanks Iain Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Ok, quick update. I get SECTION, this just creates a region but still am at a loss with SECTIONPLANE Ta Quote
ReMark Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 For a good explanation of how to use the SECTIONPLANE command find and download the handout for the AutoDesk University 2010 course entitled "Now Flatten This: Producing 2D Output from 3D Models" as taught by David Cohn. It is course number AC322-3P. Reproducing all 14 pages here would be too time consuming. Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Thanks, I am watching the video now. I get that it creates a plane, I just don't see where the 2D geometry goes. I'm sure this will become apparent soon enough Cheers again Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Is there a way to create the 2 geometry and not have the planes showing cutting through the model? If that makes sense. I swear this was easier with Mechanical desktop!!!! Quote
ReMark Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Not that I'm aware of. Can't you put the planes on their own layer? If it were easier in Mech Desktop why aren't you using that program instead? Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 I had it in 2002 and it may well be a little outdated now. Just trying to re-educate myself....things have changed somewhat! Thanks for the answers Iain Quote
ReMark Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 You want to see some real changes then move to 2013. You would probably be using the updated Base View tool instead of Flatshot or Sectionplane. Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 No way man, too scared!!! That and the boss doesnt want to fork out 5 grand. To be honest, I could use 2000 at work as I barely ever do any 3D but I don't want to lose what little skill I have Think I'm sort of getting sectionplane. Quote
ReMark Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 You could always move to an AutoCAD clone for about 25-30% of the price. Quote
iainlines Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 I use draughtsight on a laptop ocassionally for 2D which is pretty good for a freebie. As for full ACAD with all 3D elements I don't know of any decent clones Quote
