Nax Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Hi I have a problem with the UCS. I construct a 3d model of a manifold assembly and then feeda capillary tube from one point along a path to a second point. To get thecorrect angle for the pipe I use UCS – Face and align my UCS to the face of thepipe. This works fine and I can feed the pipe in which everdirection I want. When I have finished the drawing I reset my UCS using World. Recently I have had some problems when I need to modify theassembly. Although the UCS symbol and crosshairs line up perfectly with my model, when I try to 3d rotate an object it rotates the object to a weird angle. I can only assume that at some point I have forgotten toreset the UCS? Using Plan and W does not fix the problem. The only thing I cando is to start a new drawing, copy the 3d model and re-insert it in a newdrawing. What a drag, has anyone else had a similar problem and foundan answer? ReMark Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 In the future please make your thread titles more descriptive. "nax" doesn't even come close. Thank you. Quote
JD Mather Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 This sounds interesting. Can you erase everything exept one offending bit of geometry and the attach the file here and explain step-by-step how to reproduce the behavior? Quote
Nax Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Hi, Thankyou very much for showing interest. I have removed all the parts excep an elbow. I would now like to rotate the elbow so that the Female face faces up. When I try to do that the face does not appear to be at 90 deg to the plane I am working on. Procedure I enter 3Drotate on the keyboard I select the Elbow I then pick the end point of the centre line I then select the direction for the rotate I then enter -90 deg And I then have the elbow facing in a off set direction? I have tried to attache the file but am unsure if it worked. Quote
ReMark Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Does not appear that you have attached a file. Click on the Go Advanced button. At the next screen click on the Paperclip icon. Locate your file, upload it then click on Attach. Include at least ten text characters for the post to be accepted. You'll have to be mindful of the file size limitations. Quote
Nax Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Hi, Perhaps the file was too large, I have pruged the file. Hopefully it will work this time. Regards Nax 1273-Test.dwg Quote
Nax Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Hi, Many thanks! I have no idea how I managed to do that, Units is something I set at the offset and rarely ever need to modify them. Many thanks for your time and help. If I now look at the properties I see that the angle is in radians. What a relief, once again, many thanks. Regards Nax Quote
Nax Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 hi, I think I have sussed what happens and how the Degree setting gets changed. I use a lisp routine to create the 3d parth to draw the capillary along. It really works great but does have a few side effects like disabling Osnaps and now also changing the degree to radians. I will check that when next I need to modify a dwg. Once again, many, many thanks Regards Nax Quote
ReMark Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 A well written lisp routine will reset system variables back to their original condition upon exiting. Seems like your could use a re-write. Quote

Nax Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Hi, I will bear that in mind! I rather enjoy playing around with Lisp routines myselof and will have a go and see what I can do. I will moost certainly keep your sugestion in mind. Regards Nax Quote
