junkie_ball Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hi all, Ok when i use the TRIM command i am having what appears to be a random issue. Once my cutting lines (lines are parallel and lines to be cut are in between cutting lines) are selected i use a box of fence line to select multiple lines to be trimmed between to the cutting lines. The last line selected by the box or fence randomly cuts to either one or the other cutting lines but not both. I know the lines intersect and the cut works if i select each line individually and due to to the amount of times i need to do this its very tedious. Hope that makes sense as awkward to explain. Has anyone come across this problem? Quote
junkie_ball Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Oh forgot to mention i'm currently using AutoCAD 2012Lt Quote
Dadgad Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Check your EDGEMODE system variable setting, I believe that you want to set it to 0, yours is probably set to 1 now. I would suggest, if you are not already doing it, that you use the TRIM (ALL) default option. Start the TRIM command, however you are doing it, perhaps TR at the command line, then hit ENTER twice, at which point all of the lines in the drawing become eligible as cutting edges, and this speeds up the use of the trim command quite a bit. Hi have checked my EDGEMODE and this is set to I do use TRIM (ALL) but its force of habit to select my cutting edge as some of the work i'm doing is very fiddly. Although i have just tested using the TRIM (All) option and again it gives the same result. Any other thoughts or suggestions greatly received. Thanks for the help Quote
Dadgad Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 If you are going to select a cutting edge anyway, try not using the ALL option, and I think you will be okay. I suspect that your opting to specify a cutting edge, AND the ALL option is the basis for your trouble. I would also suggest using a FENCE for the selection over a CROSSING WINDOW. Or perhaps, sounds silly, but try EDGEMODE value of 1. Just looking for something, anything else that you can change. Quote

Hi, This seems to be happening whether i'm using a CROSSING BOX or FENCE to select the lines to be cut. Apologises think my last post was slightly confusing. I tend normally to use a Cutting edge but have also tested using the ALL option as not aware that you can use both CUTTING EDGE & ALL options together? Both ways has the same result. I'm starting to lean toward it being a problem on my system rather than a problem with any one drawing or setting. I will test to see if my colleague gets the same problem on his machine using one of my drawings as i know he hasn't had this issue or ever came across it. Quote
Dadgad Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 No, you are correct you cannot use the two options together, but in your post it sounded like that was what you were doing. We tried, good luck, hope you figure it out, please post back if you do. Quote

Thanks for the effort in trying to find the solution. Currently i will have to sit and scream at the screen as i am. lol. Really slows work flow but hey. Just tested the drawing i'm currently working on, on my colleagues maching and his does the same so it must be something file based rather than anything wrong with my install of cad. Quote
nestly Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 If you think it's file based, can you post a sample drawing so we can try to figure it out. Quote

ReMark Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 We don't need the whole file just enough of it to visualize the problem and be able to troubleshoot it. Nobody here is interested in stealing your drawing. Quote
