Jordan_Bennett Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Hay everyone Im new to the fourms so first of all i would like to say hello. My problem is this: I currnetly use AutoCad 2012 for all my 2d drafting but latley my clients are asking for 3d models so they can get a better prospective on what the finish product will look like (i can understand there need for this). My qustion is what would be a good choise in software to create a 3d model of a new dwelling or extension to and eixsting dwelling that is not overly time consuming. Ive been told to use Revit and i have used a trial version but im not completely sold if you know what i mean. Any help on this would be much appreciated Quote
BIGAL Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Out of the box Acad can make 3d house pretty simple without fancy rendering but true 3d. Check out CAD-ARC and autocad commands like thickness. Quote
Dadgad Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Welcome to the forum. In light of the fact that you say you have tried REVIT and were not completely sold, you could of course try Autocad Architecture which would be an easier transition from Autocad Vanilla, and give you the benefits of AEC content which is not available in Autocad Vanilla. Download a trial and take it around the block, you might find it does what you need, without a too steep learning curve. You might also want to consider one of the vertical products, suites, which are inexpensive compared to single software licenses, and offer additional functionality. Quote

The POLYSOLID command is also very useful for creating walls by just drawing a line, should you want to go with what you know, in conjunction with the PRESSPULL command for knocking out doors and windows effortlessly.
