anp2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Hi everyone, I want to learn programming for autocad. I want to extend autocad tools. Where should i begin? Quote
Tiger Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 If it's Lisps that you are interested in (if I am not totally of my boat, there are more ways to program in AutoCAD) I recommend starting at http://www.afralisp.net - even I could follow along the first tutorials there Quote
irneb Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 A great many possibilities: VBA, Lisp, VB.Net, C#, C++. Of those VBA seems to be on its way out, it's not installed by default. There's quite a discussion about this already: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?67675-What-API-should-I-learn My basic advice: Either AutoLisp or DotNet(VB/C#). Visit the forums particular to those for lots more info on them: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?21-AutoLISP-Visual-LISP-amp-DCL http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?69-.NET-ObjectARX-amp-VBA Sometime you come across a list of resources for learning, e.g. here's one showing numerous links to learn AutoLisp: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?4657-Learning-Lisp Quote

Attila The Gel Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I started 2 weeks ago with Lisp, and I got surprisingly far (from my point of view). Got stuck several times though, but don't worry you'll get the help you want here if you ask. Good luck. Quote
BIGAL Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Anp2012 biggest suggestion is give yourself a target pick something simple to start with, write down, hand draw a couple of sketches of how you would proceed to do the task manually. There is lots of people here who can help. The first step post here your first project idea, so we can suggest how you would do it rather than just giving you code. Quote
anp2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks for the suggestion. I will start off with some simple blocks and lines. If i get stuck then Knock Knock to the forum Quote
