Invalid URI

Recently, when I start up AutoCAD I gat an error message:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Invalid URI: THe format of the URI could not be determined."

I click continue and AutoCAD runs fine. Is there something that I can or shold do to prevent the error message

You can try a REPAIR of the installation.

If that doesn't fix it then you may have a .NET Framework problem.

You are using Windows XP right?

How do I do a Repair?

Windows 7:

To uninstall or change a program

• Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.
  
• Select a program, and then click Uninstall. Some programs include the option to change or repair the program in addition to uninstalling it, but many simply offer the option to uninstall. To change a program, click Change or Repair. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

This is caused by InfoCenter usually, just disable Infocenter. SEE THIS

Well, I did the repair suggested by ReMark (thanks) and I no longer get the error message at startup. But, maybe I should also disable Infocenter.

I was going by the response given by three different AutoDesk Product Support Specialists who all recommended the following as possible solutions.

• Reboot your machine first. Sometimes this is enough to get rid of this message.
  
• Repair installation from Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs
  
• If the error still occurs, reinstall .NET Framework from Control Panel.

The Repair did the trick. I'm glad to hear that. The real test will be if after a week the error does not return. Keep us up-dated. Thanks.

What part of AutoCAD uses a network connection? Autodesk will NEVER tell you InfoCenter is a problem.

A repair, probably, just temporarily reset what ever caused the message to start popping up.

I did not write the original advice I only passed part of it along. Should the problem resurface you have my permission to say "I told you so."

BTW...I have CommCtr enabled and have never had the problem occur. So what makes my version of AutoCAD work differently than the OP's?

I'm a structural engineer who uses autocad, by no means a computer or cad expert. I truly appreciate your help and will keep you posted if the repair sticks. I see no reason not to disable Infocenter anyway. Is there a downside? But I'll wait a few weeks.

There is no real downside to disabling the InfoCenter. Most people dislike it anyway. Yes, please keep us posted. Good luck.
