View Full Version : LDD 2006 Problem - Units

Let me preface this by saying that I've been using AutoCAD for almost a decade now, and LDD for about 6 years, and I'm amazed at how it can still manage to throw goony stuff like this at me after all of this time.

Anyway, so I'm doing a conceptual layout for a subdivision (I'm in Civil), and I go to calculate the area of a boundary by using the Inquiry/Area By Polylines command and I get an answer in metric units (hectares to be more precise). I go to check the units of my drawing in the DDUNITS dialogue and the Drawing Setup/Units dialogue and both are set to how they should be. What's even more baffling is that it will label lines with the proper bearing and distance and decimal formatting that we use. It seems to be a conflict soley with how the software calculates areas.

I've audited, purged and restarted my computer. It's now doing this in two different files. Any and all advice would be appreciated because I've got a fairly nice workstation and would hate to be forced to throw it off the roof of my building.

...I get an answer in metric units (hectares to be more precise).

What units did you expect to get your area in?

In theory, the reported area using Inquiry should be in "drawing units" and can therefore be interpreted in any way you like.

Well I was expecting the answer to be in acres. I can't seem to locate the menu that controls that setting for LDD. I sent the file to a buddy of mine who's a few notches above me as far as CAD knowledge goes and he couldn't figure out what was going on either, which leads me to believe that something is actually off with the file rather than a setting that needs to be reset.

I'd also like to throw out that the file was originally a Terra Model file. I've had experiences in the past where drawings that were originally set up in Eagle Point have caused corruption when referencing them into LDD files. Perhaps that's what the problem is?????

Have you checked your Parcel Settings on the Parcels menu? You can select check boxes to display square feet, acres/hectares, or both. That setting may control how the area calculator gives its results.

I think the problem is with the file itself. I'm in another file at the moment and I'm getting my inquiry answers back in the proper format.
