cbinaus Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Anyone know how I can get AutoCad to store my preferred "linear dimension" properties (i.e. arrow size, line weight etc). Currently the standard setting are not what I use and every time I open a new drawing I have to go into amend a new linear properties and also any new linear dims I create has the standard settings. I usually create one then "match" it's properties but it's still a bind creating the first one correctly Quote
nod684 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Welcome to CADTutor! what i did is i make my Standard template (dwt file) the default and included there are all the Standard Text Style, Layers and Dimension Styles that i needed. Also the Title Blocks are already there so everything is already prepared when i start a new drawing. Quote
Dadgad Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Welcome to the forum. Nod is right on the money, save an existing drawing, which you have checked to ensure that all of the elements and styles are as you like them. Once you feel good about it, SAVEAS and choose the .dwt file format from the file format dropdown list You can then set that new template which you have created as your default QNEW template, and you will hit the virtual ground running each time you start a new drawing. Do you want to use an IMPERIAL or METRIC template? Make sure you get that correct when creating your template. Metric template names end with ISO. Quote
Dana W Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 And don't save over your existing templates. Rename the new one. That's the way to do it, like they said. Create a new template with all your dimension styles, text styles, even layers, and a couple of different paper size layouts with viewports and printer designations already there. That stuff all lives just in the individual drawing. You can erase all the stuff in model and paper space, and unless you purge the drawing all your "Styles" will still be in there. You can purge the future template if you use the 'confirm each item' option to get rid of styles, blocks, layers and things you know you don't want to keep. You can copy dimension styles and most other things from a previous drawing through the design center too, if you like. Also, whenever you copy a dimensional object from one drawing to another, using copy with base point, it will bring the dimension style and text styles and layers with it, that it is associated with in the original drawing. That's because we are all old men who are sick of looking at the inlaws on Thanksgiving evening, and snuck down to the basement office to have a beer alone with our only friend, the computer. Quote
nod684 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 you're welcome and Dana's right! "alone with our only friend" Quote

Half right, in this case, an old man who would look at just about anybody (barring THE DONALD), if it meant a proper, full on new england style Turkey dinner with all the good stuff ... but very happily admiring the just completed roof framing of our new house, on the morning after Thanksgiving. The crew were supposed to show up this morning and start slapping the 3,500 plus roof tiles on it, but first they will need to levitate them to the top of the 10 meter roof ridge. It is fun though to be able to go to the village where these roof tiles are made, and order them up, made, painted and delivered the 20 miles to the job site for about 11 cents apiece. I haven't bought any Spanish style roofing tiles in the states in about 35 years, but I am guessing they are slightly more expensive than that now. I told my younger daughter who has never had a REAL turkey dinner, that next year when we have moved in, and have a new bigger kitchen with a full stove and oven, that I will cook us one. Life in asia is pretty great, all told, but now and then things get lost in transmigration. Did you mean our only friend (Sammy) and the computer? Edited November 23, 2012 by Dadgad Quote

The twelve packs were on sale at Winn-Dixie. Quote
