Using xref's would be one answer. Go find a good book on the version of AutoCAD that your are using and read up on xref's. Too much to type about it here but that would be the place to start but here is the basics..

You would have say one base floorplan (master plan) the supporting plans (electrical, mechanical, reflected ceiling plan and such) would be based off this one master file. Other users would be working on these "support" files on other workstations. This is a VERY simplified example mind you.
