AutoCAD 2006 Mechanical

I am having a problem with one user. He opens drawings from attachments, explorer anything but file open and a new session of Cad opens the drawing. It isn't the Sngle-Drawing compatibility mode under Tools; Options; System it is something deeper than that, maybe even a windows thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the user have more than one version of autocad installed on his machine. This happens to me because I have 2006 and 2007 installed. If I'm working in 2006 and then try to open something from explorer, it opens up the drawing in 2007.

This is to do with file associations. If you press shift & right click the file in explorer, then select open with then choose program you can select the program version and check a box at the bottom which saves this setting.
