I have a drawing that crashes AutoCAD (2000i LT) every time I regen. It's been recovered, audited, and purged, but every time I try to regenerate, AutoCAD stops responding and I have to use the task manager to shut it down. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
Thanks!

Does it just freeze or do you get a error message at all?Do you have alot of hatching in the drawing?Drawings with complex hatches can cause the drawing to crash.

No error messages, my mouse cursor just disappears for a while, but when it comes back I still can't do anything in the AutoCAD window. No hatching in the drawings -- it's just a grid xref -- although it does have some proxy entities (gotta love those... ).

You've purged your drawing, but have you done it three times? This will make sure that any netsed information is purged that your first purge may miss.Yes drawing proxies, they have caused enough problems in the past!Another thing you can do that sometimes works is to copy the drawing into a completely new drawing and then use that new drawing as the current one.I'd recommend doing a save just before you go to regen,so you dont loose the work youve just done.

Have you tried emptying the temporary page file? If you are short on system ram, that regen may be just enough to put it over the edge and freeze. Also try a disk cleanup. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.

Yeh you could even try closing all other programs and just run AutoCAD to free up some more system resources, via the ctrl alt del method. What OP are you using,is it Win 98,win95?They dont handle memory well at all!As a long shot it may even be that you might need to update your display card driver.
