Inventor makes rendering, LAYOUTS and 2D view creation a snap.
Well I'm yet to find out !. Although anything has got to be an improvement to SOLVIEW, SOLDRAW etc.
Part modelling - fillets, welds, counterbores, sheet metal shapes etc are easier than Auotcad 2x.
Anyone willing to share some files or examples ?
Schools in Scotland get Inventor 7 and MDT 2004 free with AutoCAD 2004.
Good deal but little training (CPD) available.
Anyone been on a good night school or similar course ?
Is it as easy as the promos say to migrate from AutoCAD to Inventor ?

Some of the venders here in So. California offer a free 2-3 hour sales pitch of Inventor (you get to use it). I found it almost as informative as the 4 day course ($900) I took.
Inventor is a very fast study. Making parts in only a few minutes.
I would go call an Autodesk vender and have a go then get a book and the software and start building parts.
BTW. I did get a job using inventor through a guy I met in the class I took.
Another good thing about Inventor not many people know how to use it.

The migration from AutoCAD to IV can be a bit of a shock. Although the two programs are from Autodesk, they are worlds apart in terms of user interface and environment (Panel Bar, Browser etc.).
Having said that, IV is quite intuitive and is just soooo much more powerful and productive.
I still use AutoCAD for a lot of 2D though.

I feel that is a bit of an understatement :)
I have just found out that my second year Nat Dip Studies in Engineering are leading me into Inventor.(Just got the hang of AutoCAD and still by far any good really, got a distinction though).
I have had an hour or two on the software but seemed to confuse myself.
My question is can anybody give me tutorial links or tips for the transition. I have followed some links from Hyposmurf and they are well past my understanding as yet.
Any help greatfully recieved. Thanks for being there.

The only problem with inventor is the cost to learn it, at £300 for a 2day course is a bit much i think. but then again how much can u learn in 2 days. inventor is easy 2 pick up but hard 2 master.

So far Inventor has been EXTREMELY easy to learn and use.
Sure I've had a couple of problems, but learned what I needed to know with minimal effort.
The is the ONLY cad program I have ever used so my opinion is pretty biased.
By the way I am using inventor 8
