View Full Version : Siding on outside of building?

I am working on a drawing of a building that needs to include a shaded 3D final view. The client would like it to show that there is vinyl siding used on the outer walls.
How do I do this? I have both AutoCad 2004 and Architectural Desktop to work with.

Do you need a 3D model or do you just need a 2D elevation? If you just want a 2D elevation, consider using the SuperHatch Express tool. All you need to do is create a small image tile that looks like your vinyl siding.

See here for a tutorial on this:

Here's what I did on a recent project using AutoCAD's solid modeling...

I drew up the profile from an actual sample of siding and extruded it into a solid model. I then placed the piece on the sheathing of the home and did a rectangluar array from the bottom up (taking into consideration the amount that each piece of siding overlaps the other). This basically put the siding on the house for me. From there I subtracted parts of the siding that covered windows, doorways, etc. On certain places I had to subtract the siding piece by piece so my rendering software looked at everything separately. I sort of got this wierd effect if each piece of siding wasn't separate from every other piece...this was in Bryce5. If you are going to shade this in AutoCAD you may or may not have this problem. Thats about it, good luck!

and if you or anyone needs a small image of white siding, here is one that will work for superhatch as well as 3d models.

Set it for 3'-2" x 3'-2" (US units) and it should work just fine.

Do you have the Express tools installed? If you do, you will see an additional drop-down menu called "Express". They are not installed by default with the rest of AutoCAD. You must install AutoCAD first and then go back to the installation CD and install them separately.

F7,
was that image of the building a superhatch or was it a rendering?

hopefully something here will be helpful for you
apply as a bitmap with uvw mapping coordinates

Thanks

I often wonder what is the way to create my own type of hatch, for example I could draw a fragment and I would like to use it in the way I use the standard hatch. Any help would be great!
