Thankyou.

It all depends on how much time you have available. If you can apply yourself to it full-time, you could learn all the basics in 2-3 days but you'd need 2-3 weeks to put it into practice and to get used to working with AutoCAD. To "master" AutoCAD you'd probably need at least a year of constant use.

Having said that, it's true to say that very few people actually use 100% of the features in AutoCAD. Different jobs and disciplines require a working knowledge of different bits of the application. My guess is that (at most) the average user gets to master about 80% of AutoCAD over time.

It is a steep lerning curve but your background in MAX will help.

I use booth AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max. CADTutor, I think we should read the final words from your previous post like:

...your background in MAX will help.
And now from your signature:

...... well, probably.
Just read them on after the other and you will find what I mean.
In my opinion, they are more differences than similar things between the two programs.

I wrote this just to present my opinion. Other people learned AutoCAD so chamces are for you too.

Experiment. I don't know MAx but command line work is the key.

Always read the command line it helps.

 well done Fuccaro! What I actually meant was that you will already understand the underlying concepts like working in 3D space, co-ordinate systems etc. Of course the commands and general functionality are quite different. Don't be put off, it's well worth it in the end!
