in our spec sheets we use tables that hold lots of data, but when we type in fractions for the copper tubing, it automatically redraws the fraction as diagonal. is there a way to disable that? we have to go back and one by one change them and it's really annoying and not efficient at all. AutoCAD 2005 & 2006. Please Help! Thanks....

could you use the following windows shorcuts to produce the fractions you require.
i stumbled across this a while ago when i needed the degrees symbol.
G
Special Symbol Shortcuts
Using the ALT Key
Alt + 0176 = ° (Degrees)
Alt + 0162 = ¢
Alt + 0188 = ¼
Alt + 0189 = ½
Alt + 0190 = ¾
Alt + 0178 = ²
Alt + 0179 = ³
Alt + 0163 = £
Alt + 0169 = ©
Alt + 0174 = ®
Alt + 0165 = ¥
Alt + 0177 = ±
Alt + 0185 = ¹
Alt + 0247 = ÷
Alt + 0166 = ¦
Alt + 0149 = •
Alt + 0134 = †
Alt + 0227 = ã
Alt + 0151 = — (m dash)
Alt + 0150 = – (n dash)

In the mtext editor, highlight some stacked text and right mouse click.
Then click on the properties option. This option is only visible when you have stacked objects selected.
Click on the Autostack button.

that's the whole point.... when there's over 100 fractions in a long spec sheet for the compressors we're doing, it sucks to go for every single one and do that. even when we copy/paste a "corrected" one (after unstacking the fraction) it still autostack's the item. we wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that it almost makes the fraction not legible from the size.... that's why we like to keep it non-stacked.
any ideas? i've searched help for about an hour.... looked through my college book, and nothing. :(

Tannar,
I think if you enter some text that would autostack, say a date, the autostack dialogue box should come up. If you uncheck the autostack box and ok it it should turn autostacking off. I think it is because if you edit one piece of text individually by highlighting it it turns it off for that one piece of text only and leaves autostacking on. This would result in copied text being stacked. Not 100% sure but I think this may be what's happening. Try it and see.

Are you cut and pasting from a text file, word file or excel spread sheet?
When I import the text (within the mtext editor) with fractions in them they don't autostack.
Can you email a section of the spec sheet with fractions? jhelton@occc.edu
Tell me exacting the process that you use to insert it into AutoCAD and I will check it out.

Ako, i've searched for that dialog box that is suppose to come up when you type in your 1st fraction in a drawing. i think it's disabled, because this is the 1st time i've seen where it doesn't come up.
Profcad, i'm not copy/pasting.... although i have before and it doesn't matter - even when you just type it in, it creates the fraction. lol, i'm pulling my hair out almost trying to find this setting..... (email sent btw, and thanks for the offer to look at it....)

select, then right click on one of the stacked fractions.
from the menu that should have poped up, select properties.
from the dialog box titled "Stack Properties" press the button labeled "AutoStack..."
This will bring up a dialog box titled "AutoStack Properties"
uncheck everything.
"ok" to close all of the dialogs.
Now try trping the same as you did before. Does it work the way you want?

Hi mate my first reply to someone :)
(im using 2004 btw...)
When you type in a fraction/date etc and it stacks you need to select the fraction (and nothing more, no spaces or anything) then right-click it, select properties and it come up with a stack properties window, click on the button called 'AutoStack...' then in this window there is the check box for enabling/disabling autostack, It doesnt help you out woth what has already been typed in the document though, you're stuck there.

Tannar,
I just typed some text that would stack e.g.25/07/2006 and as I had turned stacking off before it went in as seen. I then double clicked it to get the mtext editor on screen then highlighted the text and right clicked then selected stack. I then highlight the stacked text and right clicked and chose stack properties. You should be able to do what you want from here.
EDIT: ahh mrgrotey beat me to it.
