SHEET METAL DIMENSIONS

Trying to find out the proper way to dimension a "bend line"on sheet metal. I way alway told to indicate on drawing to "BEND DOWN (DEGREE)" and place the text above the bendline! Can anyone clear this up??
EXAMPLE:
BEND DOWN 45

just put an angle dimension, i've made TONS of shop drawings for bending sheet metal, they'll get it. just specify up or down after the degree, use DDEDIT after you put the angle dimension in place, or during.

or you can put a LEADER pointing to the bend. for example:

90^ Down or 45^ Up

Its a debate with this other guy who say "up" not "down", every prints Ive seen said down was standard, but is there a real standard for a single bend direction??

well, that's easy. take what you're drawing into perspective.... say you have a 2" flange that points to the ground, that's a Bend Down. or if you have a backsplash of a countertop that's 4" tall that points towards the ceiling, that's a Bend Up. that's the way our shop does it.... the reason behind it, is to give a more detailed description for sheetmetal shop guys, sometimes shop drawings can get confusing with minimal views, or sometimes you do it so you can consolidate views and not cause clutter on your prints.
