Can somebody please help me, there are certain drawings that when I copy and paste it to a different file, a dialogue box pops out saying fatal error and the programs shuts-off.

Were the files in question created in 2007 and then saved as 2000 format? If so, this could be the problem:

The drawing's database has turned bad.

I know this is an old thread, but I though I would add my 2 cents. I had this same problem and it wasn't a 2007 version issue. I am still using 2004. When I copy any object and paste into same drawing or another drawing or insert block I got the Fatal Error message.
I agree with the last post, the drawing database is messed up. I wanted to add what I did to fix my drawing. I simply saved as AutoCad R12/LT2 DXF, closed autocad, then re-opened that dxf file and saved as acad 2004 dwg file. After doing this I was able to copy/paste again.
Note: Doing this blew away all my image references in the image manager. I had a lot of images in there and I wonder if something in there was corrupt? Even so, I tried just removing all the image references and that alone didn't work. It also didn't work to use acad2000 dxf format, only the R12 dxf worked.
Maybe this will help someone else or maybe someone else has a better fix. I figure this trick may not work for everyone.
