Hi people.

Well, I got a map which i must digitize, the problem is that the city where i live at don't have neither big scanners nor tablets (drawingboards).

So if you have suggestions about what can i do to try to solve my problem it would be really helpful to me.

Thanks for helping me out.

Well if you hace access to a small scanner, you could scan your map in bits and then put it together in AutoCAD, scale it and trace over it.

If the drawing is larger than your digitizer divide it into sections and digitize the individual sections then piece them together. Two important things to do are 1) assign a coordinate system to the drawing and 2) "calibrate" your tablet using the coordinates for the individual sections (lower left hand corner, upper right hand corner). I have used this technique to digitize a 36x24 drawing by way of my 11x11 CalComp Drawingboard III digitizer. Make the entire surface of the tablet your drawing area. Toggle the tablet on/off using the F4 function key (Tabmode) to access the AutoCAD pull-down menus, etc.

If you haven't got access to a scanner, you can always use a 5mp or better digital camera to take a picture of it (recommend using a tripod and hanging it flat on a wall to avoid skew) then you can use photoshop to crop and scale it to it's measured width and height. After that you should be able to digitize it using whatever software you prefer. I've done it for some projects in my studio and it works quite well.

Well, thanks for the help.

Once, I had the same problem and what i did was to scan the map and then I started to draw over it, but that map was letter size, this one is more than 36 x 36.

So I guess I can bend it and begin scanning it and them assemble all the parts, but it'll take a lot of time to draw over it.

I've heard about programs who can digitize an image, have you ever heard about it??? and if you have do you know one that I can use???

The website seems quite interesting, I'm gonna check it out, but if you know something else about this let me know it.

Thanks once again for helping me out.
