I've just joined the forum having restarted using Acad after quite a few years away from it. The info seems to just what I need and the site has the feel of a helpful place but....

Some of the avatars in use are gross. Believe me I DO have a sense of humour but I feel sickened after they have been on the screen for a few minutes. Any way of turning them off? Besides switching off pictures in my web browser controls that is.

All I'm after is some helpful hints on Acad and, eventually, to be able to contribute. I don't want to see suggestions of people setting fire to themselves or bitting the heads off kids. Even in humour, if it could be described as that.

Squeamish? Not really. Out of touch with what is acceptable in modern society? Possibly.

I could always avoid the threads with the avatars I consider offensive, and I will, but I thought I would voice my opinion instead of just avoiding the forum altogether.

Thanks for an interesting and helpful forum. W

Whodee, thanks for your comments. We do try our hardest to make this forum as balanced as possible (i.e. somewhere in the middle between anarchic and totalitarian). In the main, I think we have it about right. In the past, users have been quietly asked to change their avatars where they were considered too gross. The ones you mention are on the edge of what I would consider acceptable. Personally, I find animated avatars very distracting but I have to say that yours is the first complaint I've received about them. Usually, I will take action if I get more than one complaint, so if any one else has issues with these, do let me know.

As I'm sure you are aware, the web and forums such as this attract all sorts of individuals and treading a middle line is not easy. It's inevitable that some more sensitive souls will find the place too wild, while others will find it too authoritarian. I am sorry that you find some aspects of the forum rather gross but do stick around, the information is good and free and you will discover that underneath those avatars are a very friendly bunch of people who just like helping others use AutoCAD better.
