after using "3d continous orbit" I press escape, but when I try to save my work, I keep getting a message stating that there is still a "command in progress".... I can still manipulate the drawing, but I can't save it!...I eventually copy the whole drawing to a new drawing and its o.k......but what a hassle.....any takers

Go to VIEW > REGEN ALL to escape the orbit command and see if that works. If you are low on memory, or if your computer is slow, it may be slow to respond and may require hitting escape a couple of times for it to go through.

Are you using 2000 or 2000I ?
I used to have that problem at the old place when we were using acad2000I, its pretty annoing, Do what F7 said, hit escape a few times before moving on. It only occured when trying to save.

Have you downloaded the service packs from autodesk? sometimes this may help to check that you are up to date.

Using AutoCAD 2000 once or twice I experimented the same problem. Now I work on a new computer (more RAM) and until now it was OK.

well I tried the REGEN ALL and that did'nt work, I downloaded the service pack for AutoCAD 2002, it did'nt help. A colleague of mine suggested that maybe RENDER was the "command in progress". So I Ctrl>Alt>Delete and checked task manager and RENDER was running! when I tried to shut it off AutoCAD crashed  so I opened AutoCAD again, opened the dwg., did the countinous 3d orbit, I still could'nt save. This time RENDER was'nt running...!? usually when I close a drawing I click on the close icon, so this time I tried to close by File>Close...the dialog box asked me if I wanted to save?..I clicked yes..it saved and closed! This must be a flaw in AutoCAD!... I'm running a Pentium 4 with 256 meg of ram, it should be fast enough. I don't run other programs at the same time. I think i'll stay away from countinous 3d orbit ........thanks for your help and speedy replys, talk to you soon.
