hi folks,
i'm running autocad 2000i on xp pro. when i plot a 300kb drawing they are sent to the server as a 2 mb file. when i convert it to a .pdf file they are about 3 mb.
any help on how to fix this would be great. i've tried reducing the dpi in adobe but the resolution is too poor.
Thanks,

A more expensive option would be to upgrade to 2004 this version compresses your files so theyre smaller and decompresses them when you need them.A cheaper option that will have a small effect ,would be make sure youve purgeds your drawings.Sometimes have to purge the drawing three times to get everything thats not needed out of the drawing.Maybe you could zip what you have on the server if your not frequently using it.That does sound odd though how a 300kb drawing would up to a 2mb file, obviously something else going on!Have you asked your IT department if theyve got an idea?

the i.t. guy here doesn't know how to solve the problem. i've tried purging my drawing but that doesn't change anything. the wierd thing is that the other designers here do not seem to have this problem. they are all on autocad 2000 on windows 2000. i'm the only one with 2000i on xp pro.
i guess i'll get them to do all my pdf'ing from now on.

Have you tried installing the service packs for 2000i?

Try to WBLOCK out the drawing and insert it a new drawing. This is also a way to purge.

It will be the server. Spooling can ballon files easily. I have once seen a coreldraw 5mb file ballon to 400mb befor eit printed days later. Thios may be extreme. We have 250 PCs on an NT network.
