I would just like to say how great this forum is. Not only do you have some of the best CAD users in the world, I just noticed someone posting things about selling cellphones etc.. and within minutes this guy was kicked out
Well done to CADTUTOR for clearing up the forums of all unwanted content at such speed and also for the great help i have recieved from the users!
Keep up the great work :)

Yep, that post was on the forum for half an hour, sorry to be so long in getting to it.
Seriously though, spam is our biggest problem at the moment and I with a great deal of help from the moderators do seem to be dealing with it with a minimum of fuss. The post you saw is now deleted, as is the user who posted it and his IP address has been banned so he can't return using the same PC.
Sadly, just like spam email, spam forum postings are now a way of life and it's just something we have to deal with.
But thanks for the great feedback, it means a lot. :)

Do you have user account activation turned on? Most of the time these spammers use fake email addresses, so when the activation email gets sent to them, they dont receive it and they cant post.

Email activation is turned on but that doesn't stop them, just slows them down and keeps it to a manageable level. We also have a number of other ways to keep the opportunists at bay but many of these spammers are pros and they know all the popular forum software inside out. They even have bots that can register automatically. :o

Oh, I know all about forum spammers. I administrate/moderate 4 forums, and we don't get nearly the level of spam that this forum does. Have you kept up with the software updates? phpBB is now running v. 2.0.21.

The spamming began a few months ago. Prior to that we got almost nothing. I guess we just made it onto a list in Spammers Monthly or something.
I'm currently preparing a move to vBulletin 3.6 and we'll be moving over at the end of this month. I'm hoping that will help the problem somewhat.
